Coronary Artery Bypass

Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), also known as bypass surgery, improves heart blood flow by redirecting it around blocked coronary arteries.

In this procedure, a surgeon uses a healthy blood vessel from the chest, leg or arm, connecting it from the aorta to a coronary artery beyond the blockage.

  • The number of grafts required depends on the extent of the disease.
  • Performed under general anesthesia, CABG usually takes 3 to 6 hours.
  • Most patients experience reduced symptoms and a lower mortality risk within 10 years post-surgery.
  • Cardiac rehabilitation is often recommended for recovery.

Heart Transplant

A heart transplant, replacing a diseased heart with a donor heart, is considered when heart failure is severe, and all other treatments have failed.

Oklahoma's first heart transplant occurred at INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center in 1985. Now, INTEGRIS Health Heart Hospital, the state's largest comprehensive heart and lung transplant center, routinely performs transplants and ranks among the nation's top programs for survival rates, according to United Network for Organ Sharing.

Ventricular Assist Device

When your heart is weakened by a heart attack or heart failure, it may struggle to heal or require a transplant. Ventricular assist devices (VADs) can help by taking over heart function, allowing time for recovery or enabling a more active life.

INTEGRIS Health Heart Hospital offers Oklahoma’s only VAD program and ranks in the nation's top 10 for LVAD implants.

Ross Procedure

This open-heart surgery replaces a diseased aortic valve with the patient's own pulmonary valve and then uses a donor valve for the pulmonary position.
