Let's Take on Cold and Flu Season

It’s that time of year. Each day another friend, coworker or child seems to be coming down with something. How can you avoid a cold and flu altogether?

About the Program

Lifestyle is Medicine is a part of the National Diabetes Prevention program created by the Centers for Disease Control. This program is backed by research conducted by the CDC that found enrolling in a National Diabetes Prevention program like Lifestyle Is Medicine was more successful than medication at reducing your likelihood of developing diabetes.

This research showed people with prediabetes who take part in a structured lifestyle change program can cut their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58 percent (71 percent for people over 60 years old). This finding was the result of the program helping people lose 5 percent to 7 percent of their body weight through healthier eating and 150 minutes of physical activity a week. For a person who weighs 200 pounds, losing 5 percent to 7 percent of their body weight means losing just 10 to 14 pounds. It doesn’t take a drastic weight loss to make a big impact.

INTEGRIS Health’s diabetes prevention program is fully recognized by the Centers for Disease Control. We have seen great success in our classes since beginning in 2015.

  • Average percent of weight loss in participants is 9.2 percent
  • Participants report a reduction in blood sugars, total cholesterol, and blood pressure numbers
  • Patients reported improved energy levels, better sleep and an overall improvement in how they feel

Studies show everything from your body weight to your fitness level are heavily determined by the people around you. The people with whom you surround yourself, shape you. Motivation is contagious. But it’s not just motivation that is bolstered by community, so is accountability.

The INTEGRIS Lifestyle is Medicine program will boost your motivation and accountability by surrounding you with 15 to 20 other participants who share your same goals and struggles. You may even find yourself a new walking partner!

During this program you will receive guidance from a lifestyle coach, specially trained to lead the program, to help you learn new skills, encourage you to set and meet goals, and keep you motivated. The coach will also facilitate discussions and help make the program fun and engaging.
