Every day of life should be lived fully. But the changes that come with aging can be challenging, making it difficult to enjoy life – not only for those who are growing older, but also for their family members.
Generations is a short-term, inpatient psychiatric program for adults age 55 and older. Generations will help patients:
Generations focuses on patients who have concerns or needs such as:
Anyone may make a referral. Most are made by physicians, nursing homes, assisted living centers, mental health professionals, members of the clergy, friends or family members. Often times, patients will self-refer.
The primary care physician may refer patients directly to our program and can also choose to be a part of the treatment team. All patients are assigned to the care of a board certified or board eligible psychiatrist. As needed, each patient is assigned a second physician (family doctor or specialist) whose role is to address any medical concerns while the patient is on the unit. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of treatment, we ask that questions and requests about the patient’s progress and treatment be directed to the patient’s therapist, social worker or nurse.
Family members are considered to be an important part of the treatment process, and each patient’s therapist will schedule family conferences and discharge planning with the family and the patient. Generally, family sessions are once a week. We recommend that all families participate in family support groups through NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Information on how to access these groups can be found at namioklahoma.org or by calling them at 405-230-1900.
Generations staff understand that life changes in this age group require special treatment and interventions for optimal outcomes. We offer comprehensive care that addresses each individual’s specific needs in order to maximize cognitive and emotional functioning and to enhance the patient’s quality of life. Our multi-disciplinary treatment team consists of psychiatrists; primary care physicians (as needed); licensed mental health professionals, social workers, case managers, psychiatric nurses, recreational therapists and mental health technicians.
Prior to admission to our program, patients must be evaluated and medically cleared through an emergency department. If medically cleared, the initial assessment is conducted by a licensed mental health professional. If deemed to meet criteria for inpatient hospitalization, the patient will be admitted to the unit by the INTEGRIS Health Mental Health staff psychiatrist.
INTEGRIS Health Generations accepts Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance as well as private pay. Typically these payors will cover both hospital and physician charges. Standard deductibles and co-insurance may apply and payment is contingent on patient meeting the payors’ medical necessity criteria for acute inpatient hospitalization or medical detoxification. For assistance with financial arrangements, please contact the INTEGRIS Health Customer Service Center at 877-259-3388.
Family physicians and other primary care providers are often the first to recognize the symptoms of stress overload, anxiety disorders, depression and substance abuse. An estimated seven out of 10 office visits are for stress or anxiety-related complaints.
Left untreated, these conditions not only affect the patient’s quality of life, but also can significantly impact a patient’s physical health.
At INTEGRIS Health Mental Health we believe that we all want to live well. Every day of life should be lived fully. But the changes that come with aging can be challenging, making it difficult to enjoy life - not only for those who are growing older, but also for those charged with their care.
If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide or is a danger to themselves or others
Please call the treating facility to request information on visiting hours.
Because we value patient confidentiality, unit doors are kept locked and visitors are required to sign in. There is a two visitor limit per patient during visiting hours and children younger than age 14 are not allowed. Purses, cell phones, cameras and weapons are not permitted on the unit during visitation and scheduled family meetings. Please make arrangements to secure these items prior to visitation – you will not be permitted on the unit with any of these items.
Patients may use the phone between therapy sessions until 10 p.m. Calls can be made and received at several patient phones throughout the unit and assistance is available if needed. Loved ones can reach patients by calling Generations at 405-644-5008 and requesting transfer to one of the patient phones.
Patients are welcome to bring personal items; however, some belongings may be kept at the nurses’ station for safety. We encourage patients to leave jewelry and items of value at home as we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen personal items.
All clothing and personal items are checked in and labeled at the time of admission. Please notify the staff of these items: eye glasses, contact lenses, dentures, hearing aids and prostheses.
Patients may choose to wear their own clothing during their stay. We suggest enough clothes for three days and nights. We launder the clothing on the unit daily or families can choose to launder at home. Please bring clothing that does not have strings, laces, belts or long straps as these are not permitted on the unit for the safety of all of our patients.
