Learn about the INTEGRIS Health radiology residency rotation, call and moonlighting schedules.

Rotation, Call and Moonlighting

Rotation

CT Rotation

  1. CT of head, neck, temporal bone, chest, spine, abdomen and pelvis.
  2. CT angiography of all types.
  3. Multiphase abdominal CT for liver transplant evaluation.

Ultrasound Rotation

  1. Abdomen, pelvis, obstetric and extremity US.
  2. Transplant imaging.
  3. Doppler US.

Fluoroscopy Rotation

  1. Adult and pediatric fluoro procedures (Upper GI evaluation, esophagram, and barium enema)
  2. Fluoro-guided LP and myelography.
  3. Voiding cystourethrography and HSG’s.

Two Pediatric months are spent at OU Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City.

One pediatric month is done at the pediatric hospital in Dallas, TX.

Nuclear Medicine Rotation

  1. Ventilation/Perfusion scans.
  2. GI bleeding studies.
  3. Bone scans.
  4. Cisternography.
  5. Thyroid diagnostics and therapeutics (with I-131).

Interventional Rotation

  1. Cerebral and extremity angiography.
  2. Intracranial aneurysm coiling.
  3. Radiofrequency microwave ablation.
  4. TIPS and mesenteric angiography.
  5. Abscess drainage.
  6. Percutaneous nephrostomy.

ER Rotation

  1. Night float system with hours from 8pm-8am. Check out with staff between 7-8 a.m.
  2. This month is divided between 2 residents with several days on followed by days off. This is in compliance with resident hour regulations.
  3. Studies include trauma and stroke.
  4. 3 months during 2nd year and 2 months during 3rd year. 1 shared month during 4th year.

INTEGRIS Health Cancer Institute

  1. Interpret CT, NM, and PET/CT studies on oncologic and non-oncologic patients.
  2. Learn about imaging findings related to cancer treatment.
  3. Learn about cancer staging and follow-up.
  4. Participate in the multidisciplinary cancer conferences.
  5. Demonstrate awareness of contrast induced nephrotoxicity, nephrogenic systemic sclerosis, and radiation dose.

Imaging Center Rotation

  1. Multiple MRI examinations daily with additional CT.
  2. Neuroradiology side includes MRI, MRA head and neck, PET-CT, CTA.
  3. Body/MSK side includes MRI of all joints, MRI/MRA chest, abdomen and pelvis with additional CT/CTA.

Plain film experience is obtained on the reading room rotations which also includes all imaging done on floor, ER and post operative studies.

Call

We have 17 residents, with one on call per night, which averages to around q17d for the residency. Most call is taken during 2nd and 3rd years of residency making the average closer to q9d for the time you actually are taking call.

The ER rotation functions as night float so that on call you stay until 8pm on the weekdays/weekends.

Moonlighting

The consensus among staff and residents is the same regarding moonlighting in moderation: it is a logical step in education, giving more senior residents additional radiology training experience and confidence.
