The Mossman family has a lot to celebrate this holiday season after Amy Mossman, a wife and mother of four, experienced a serious medical episode at home.

Her husband, Kenny, drove her from Carnegie, Okla. to INTEGRIS Health Canadian Valley Hospital as quickly as he could. “As you can imagine, the hour-long drive to Yukon was tense,” he remembers. “Neither of us knew what was happening and were preparing ourselves for a long emergency room experience.” Excellent Emergency Care at INTEGRIS Health Canadian Valley Hospital

But, he says that isn’t what happened at all. “In less than a minute, we were in an exam room. Within 45 minutes of our arrival, Amy had gone through four tests, received an accurate diagnosis and was undergoing treatment. Needless to say, we were both pleasantly surprised and impressed.”

Amy agrees, “The staff at INTEGRIS Health Canadian Valley Hospital met a scary and stressful situation with immediate action and ultimately the answers we needed.”

James Lunsford, D.O., is an emergency medicine specialist who cared for Amy that night. “Mrs. Mossman was diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and multiple bilateral pulmonary embolisms (PEs), accompanied by a significant clot burden in both lungs. She was quickly diagnosed, started on a heparin drip for treatment and was admitted to the hospital for further monitoring.” He adds, “She had an excellent response to the recommended therapy and was discharged within three days. No doubt, these are the outcomes we like to see for all emergency department patients.”

Amy followed up with a pulmonologist, who after looking at scans from that first night, indicated just how incredibly lucky she was to be alive.

Kenny is the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Carnegie. He believes luck had very little to do with it. “The Lord works through people, and our blessing that night was that He put INTEGRIS Health Canadian Valley Hospital in our path. We are forever grateful for the amazing care Amy received.”
